Stress regulation

We experience tension or stress in different ways and it can be difficult to reduce or regulate this. Various factors such as work stress, major life events or an imbalance between work, private and social activities are sometimes difficult to influence. These factors can cause you to lose energy on a physical and/or mental level, or give you the feeling that you do not have enough space to do things that you enjoy. This can result in increased (muscle) tension, increased (chest) breathing, brooding, sleep problems or a lack of energy. At Cardo Healthcare we give you tools, individually or in groups, to create a better balance and to better regulate tension. We use attention and relaxation exercises, apply breathing techniques and ensure that your body awareness improves. You learn to recognize when you are building up tension and how you can efficiently regulate or reduce it. Especially in the case of chronic pain complaints, burn-out complaints or if you experience a lack of energy, these methods can help you further in your recovery.

Stress regulation: techniques and methods

Below is a list of the various techniques and methods that are used in stress regulation therapy:

  • Learning efficient abdominal breathing and breathing exercises.
  • Attention exercises that contribute to recognizing tension in your body, becoming aware of (dysfunctional) thoughts and helping you “experience in the now”
  • Relaxation exercises; various forms that are done practically or passively. This includes autogenic training, visualization and muscle relaxation.
  • Education about the function of “stress” and its impact on your body and mental well-being.
